The 66kV switchyard was constructed between 1913-1916 as part of the East Perth Power Station, with the switchgear installed to distribute the electrical output of the power station. It was initially rated 12MW but was later expanded, downstream through SECWA's (now Western Power) electricity network.

The 66kV switchyard was decommissioned in preparation for removal, as part of site preparations for redevelopment.

Phase 1 of removing the above ground infrastructure was completed in December 2024.

Phase 2 which doesn't appear to have yet started, will involve the removal of all underground structures and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

132kV Switchyard

The 132kV switchyard was constructed as part of the power station's upgrade in 1935-1938, which saw the addition of the 25MW "B" station. This resulted in higher-level transmission lines being installed to serve Perth's growing electricity demand.

The 132kV yard functioned alongside the 66KV yard and consisted of articulations of circuit breakers, isolators and busbars, primarily with steel lattice structures and oil-filled breakers.

Between 2022-2023, Western Power began relocating the overhead wires underground, which saw the removal of five poles near the power station. Overheard wires crossing the Graham Farmer Freeway were also moved to new steel poles further south in a bid to improve the area's aesthetic look.
